Thanks to You, We Reached Our Goal!
We met amazing families, put on an all-star ice skating show, reached our sweepstakes goal so we could donate $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), and did what we set out to do — celebrate the importance of family. Yes, the second annual Musselman’s Apple Sauce Celebrate Family Sweepstakes has come to a close. We’re sad it’s over, but we had a blast and we couldn’t have done it without you!
Scavenger Hunts, Prizes, and a Good Cause
Our sweepstakes started in September with a scavenger hunt that ran until December 9. Families could enter once a week by hunting around the Internet for interesting tidbits about healthy eating, family activities, and more. For every entry we received — and for every new “like” on Facebook — Musselman’s donated $1 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), a non-profit organization that provides education, early detection services, and a community of supporters for women nationwide. Our goal all along was to donate $50,000.
A Spectacular Show
The first part of the sweepstakes offered a grand prize of a three-day, two-night trip for four to the Musselman’s Apple Sauce Family Skating Tribute, a family-themed ice skating and musical extravaganza that featured Olympic figure skaters performing with their children. The event took place at the brand new Pegula Ice Arena at Penn State University on November 3, with champions Katia Gordeeva, Ilia Kulik, Irina Slutskaya, Paul Wylie, and others taking to the ice with their spouses and kids. Kristi Yamaguchi and Michael Weiss hosted the show, and country music legend Sara Evans performed a number of her hits, including her latest release, “Slow Me Down.” The show aired on NBC on November 24 and AXS on December 14, giving families everywhere a chance to watch. If you missed it, you can view a slideshow from the producer of the show, Disson Skating
Who was our grand prize winner? It was Irene M., a grandmother from Toms River, New Jersey, who reminded us all of the essential role grandparents play in the lives of our kids.
A Marketplace for the Whole Family
The next phase of the sweepstakes, which ran from October 15 to December 14, gave families a chance to win one of eight weekly prizes that appealed to all ages: a $100 gift card to Amazon. Each week, participants entered by responding to our latest scavenger hunt question, which ranged from fun queries like “How many pounds did Musselman’s record-setting bowl of apple sauce weigh?” to more serious topics like “How many women in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer each year?” View the full list of questions and answers, and our our eight winners who come from seven different states, from California and Colorado to Ohio and Massachusetts
A Joint Effort
As a result of the many families and supporters who took part in our Celebrate Family Sweepstakes, who “liked” us on Facebook, and who spread the word to their friends, Musselman’s reached its goal of entries and Facebook “likes” and donated $50,000 to NBCF to raise awareness about and support women and families in the fight against breast cancer.
Stay tuned for more family-themed fun with Musselman’s Apple Sauce, and check back next September for another great adventure.
