What Goes into Growing a Healthy Family?
All eyes were on the strong, graceful figure skaters at the Sochi Olympics this past winter. It was thrilling to watch these incredible athletes compete in front of the whole world, after years of intense training and commitment to their sport.
Many former Olympians like Kristi Yamaguchi, Paul Wylie and Nancy Kerrigan are now parents who, like many of us, are balancing the demands of their careers with the desire to raise happy, healthy families. While most of us don’t have to keep up with being the training regimen of an elite athlete, we all want to stay fit, healthy, and still have time to enjoy our lives and families.
Now, your family can win a chance to see — and meet — these skaters by entering the Musselman’s Growing a Healthy Family Sweepstakes, which runs from August 19 to September 15. The grand prize is a trip for a family of four to the Musselman’s Family Skating Tribute on October 19 at the Pegula Ice Arena at Penn State University, where U.S. Champion and Olympic skaters will take to the ice — with their children — for a spectacular performance and celebration of family.
Adding to the excitement, featured musical guest and Grammy award-winner Amy Grant will perform a number of songs live during the show.
You can enter the sweepstakes every week. And don’t worry: even if you don’t win the grand prize, you’ll have plenty of chances to win a $100 gift card to Amazon throughout the rest of the sweepstakes campaign, which runs until November 3.
When you visit to enter each week follow along here on the blog for fun activities, tips, and recipes, all are great ways to grow a healthy, happy family. Here are some of the things coming in the weeks ahead.

Fitness for the whole family
Staying active is easier when it’s a family affair. And being a good role model for your kids puts them on the path to lifelong fitness. If your family’s not into running or sports, how about a trip to a trampoline park or some kayaking? You’ll have so much fun you won’t even realize it’s exercise. Plus, find out how our Olympic and champion skaters stay fit with their families off the ice.
Stress-busting strategies
We’re more plugged-in and overscheduled than ever. But medical studies show that stress takes a big toll on our mental and physical health, for adults and kids. We’ll look at some easy ways to incorporate meditation and relaxation into your life. It can be as easy as unplugging once a week or getting better sleep at night. We’ll show you how.
Eco-friendly fun
Recycling has become second-nature to most of us, but with a little imagination and some searching on Pinterest, you can upcycle common household items into something even better. You won’t believe some of the creative uses we’ve discovered for plastic cups, jars, and bottles. Family project time!
